Golden Boy Episode 2 Review

Episode two does a great job in establishing the episodic like nature of these episodes and the formula. It would seem that each episode is going to be golden boy’s various encounters with women and the stories that he has with them. Each episode is about an encounter with a cute girl and the various things that happen between them to teach each other messages about the world.

This episode had a major plot twist half way through so if you don’t want to be spoiled; don’t watch this. It’ll only be less good.

We see our main character accept a cleaning job on the basis that he’ll be able to see the cute girl who was there that one time (it’s a very rich and busy house) and he meets the girl. The rest of the story is told from the girl’s perspective in a very interesting way. It details her exploits and manipulation to play and use this guy for her own satisfaction whilst still not granting him a relationship.

I had a fun theory that she was actually going against the main character for political reasons. The main character was running the election thing and then going to tutor the girl all on the same day, making him more tired. This made me think that she was doing this to distract him from the election but it was overlooked in the end.

She then stole the guy’s notebook to see what he had written and we then learned that he had been manipulating her all along! It was a brilliant shock and made this episode amazing.

The way this episode used fan service feels very much like the way it should be used: to tell a story. The fan service and intrigue came from the girls manipulation so it didn’t feel forced or out of place, on the contrary!

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the best episode of golden boy in the whole series but I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future, I hope the other stories are just as interesting!

I also won’t spoil the beautiful ending, you should watch it yourself.
