Despite this episode being a far lot worse than any other I still liked it. Even in the worst of episodes, the episodes that are rife with obnoxious fan service there’s always some aspect at the end that makes you feel like you’ve learned something.
The majority of this show is annoying fan service which is placed annoyingly but even when that happens the dialogue tends to make up for it. A hilarious line from the dub that I had to write down here was “The wild beast inside you has awoken the wild beast inside me!” and there’s plenty more.
To appreciate this episode you have to take your mind away from the fan service and focus on the real message of the show. It’s subtle but it’s about the relationship that golden boy has with his swimming class and how he helps them learn. It’s genuinely feels awesome when you learn that he’s been helping the students well and showing up the main instructor by being much better than her at teaching.
This is all true for the people who golden boy runs into but there’s always a bitter feeling within them that golden boy was right all along, and through this he changes people’s lives for the better. The simple moral message of this (despite be a try hard like it always is) is that one thing doesn’t work for everyone and that to properly connect with and teach people you need to do it in a way that matches them well.
It’s a really fun idea to see done and I really enjoy golden boy a heck of a lot more than most people do – it’s really great right now. See you for episode 5 where I subtly include more of my potentially questionable moral messages.
