The main purpose of this episode was to provide set up for the inter high preliminary’s and I’m looking forward to it. When an episode doesn’t have much going on but training it’s nice to see a lot of cool moments here and there whilst establishing that they’re working very hard.
They reveal a hidden banner with the word “fly” on it to inspire the team to victory. What was more interesting and probably more inspiring from the fans was the encouragement from their coach who has remained very silent. For most of Haikyuu so far it wasn’t very clear what kind of personality they’re coach had or that she was even a quiet girl because the show never really focussed on her. From this moment we can see that she is very much both shy and quiet but also that she really want’s the team to win by doing something that she finds uncomfortable to help the team.
As well as this we learn that Hinata and Kageyama have a race to school every day and that it’s currently 32-30. This competitiveness is something that I love about Haikyuu, it just really inspires me for no reason.
Another thing that happened was a short moment about believing in yourself. One of the volley ball team’s classmates didn’t think that they could win but the other guy tried to inspire her to do better. It was nice to see this competitiveness rub off onto other people. I don’t normally like people getting competitive in real life (I often think it’s just pointless) but these guys get competitive in just the right way that it feels really fun and engaging to watch.
