DNA² Episode 1 Review

In DNA² we’re introduced to main character Junta who is for some reason allergic to girls. This is shown through him becoming sick at the most attractive girl in his school. Despite all this, he is explained to be a serious threat to mankind as he is the “mega playboy”.

He is such a problem to society that someone is tasked to go back in time from 100 years in the future to kill him in order to prevent an overpopulation crisis.  The idea is that he had 100 children and all one hundred of his children went on to have 100 more children so that the problem became bigger and bigger until the threat needed to be eliminated.

Despite all this it’s clear that Junta is not this guy due to his allergies, he spends half of the episode complaining about it. Part of this is because of the fact that the girl who he was with at her house actually had a boyfriend who has many other girlfriends, not just the one Junta was with.

Anyway, during this time he gets shot at by a girl from the future who’s come back to prevent his problem but he actually survives and walks off in a daze to the girls (Tomoko’s) house and he awakens as the mega playboy and gets her to fall in love with him. The thing is that Junta’s aware that she has a boyfriend so he backs off.

It’s only at the end of the episode that we learn that Karin, the girl who went back in time, actually caused him to become the mega playboy, not only creating a paradox but also getting in to massive amounts of trouble whilst doing so.

What I find very strange about this anime is that the characters refer to their attractiveness as their DNA instead of anything else. Tomoko’s boyfriend goes so far as to worry about the fact that someone could have “stronger DNA” than he does, I found this idea very funny.

This episode was very funny but also quite interesting, I can see it going downhill in the future but I’m going to continue watching it anyway!
