Made In Abyss Episode 3 Review

We are thrown into the episode knowing that Riko wants to find her mother by going to the very bottom of the abyss. This leads to lots of conflict and emotion as going to the bottom is a one way trip and the characters of course don’t want to leave each other.

At the same time Reg goes on his first mining expedition which goes pretty well. Due to having super strength he can succeed very well. I find it strange that very valuable artefacts are just lying around for no reason but I guess that’s just what the worlds like. It might not make much sense but that doesn’t stop it from being cool.

Reg wants to learn about where he came from and why so he agrees to go with Riko and leave the others behind. I can imagine the characters changing a lot on the journey so I’m looking forward to see what they can do.

After an argument with Nat the characters fall out on the day before and it leads to a huge amount of tension. This is eventually resolved before the characters leave but the conflict is gripping and entertaining.

The characters sneak out in the middle of the night together in a very stealthy way. Nat then leads the characters through his hometown and explains his backstory. The journey is deliberately jolly as the characters get on well but when they approach the hole the jokes stop and it gets serious. I immediately felt a horrible gut feeling in my stomach when the characters had to descend; it was a sad moment which was made sadder when the characters left each other at the end of the episode.

The episode didn’t have much plot but it had a great emotional story which was great to see explored. Many conflicts were set up and resolved and it was a really great episode to experience.

Thank you for reading this post from JEARETTAS Day 28! If you have any episode suggestions for me to review then you are unfortunately too late. But don’t worry, you can search the JEARETTAS archive for something you might like anyway!
