The Irresponsible Galaxy Tylor Episode 1

I’ve recently been enjoying watching low rated anime’s from this season so that I can enjoy ragging on them or just work out what people don’t like about it, and there’s plenty to dislike from this episode.

In a successful three minute episode series the plot has to be easy to understand and should often be funny. The series is too short overall to deliver a masterpiece of a narrative with meaningful story lines and good fleshed out characters so it normally has to be funny and easy to understand to have that appeal straight away. Either that or it just has to have constant fan service to get people to watch.

We start with a one minute exposition scene which is dull and forgetful, it doesn’t really set up the narrative very well and I watched the episode a few minutes ago and I don’t remember what it was about at all.

Anyway we’re introduced to a robot and Tyler who clean up rubbish. The character design of Tyler is pretty good. I like his banjo and clothing as it looks unique and interesting but theirs one terrible thing about him. His voice. The characters voice is horrible to listen to and completely ruins the character and I hate it. The voice actor Koide Hikaru has only ever starred in Teekyu 3 and a spin off of it before this so she’s not that well known and not that good (based on experience). I don’t want to rag on the voice actor but I just don’t like her.

The choice of voice actor also shows the passion brought into the project, or lack of it. Considering that most voice actors have very little experience prior to this (the exceptions being Suwa Ayaka and Eguchi Takuya) I think that this series is either underfunded or just doesn’t have much passion going into it. That might be a cynical way of looking at the series but it’s just my opinion.

The episode then shows Tylor saving the girl from the spaceship and releasing her, ending the episode. So not a lot happened and nearly all of it was bad. The plot was dull and boring and the show feels like not even the creators care about it. But that’s not enough to justify a low MAL score, what else is wrong with it?

Well I found out that the series is an alternate version of another series with 26 episodes of 23 minute episode lengths. By looking at MAL reviews I can easily see that it was extremely well liked and I can imagine the disappointment of many fans when they saw this series. It must feel horrible to see a series you loved become ruined by terrible writers and terrible three minute episodes. So I can understand the low scores and in my opinion it’s completely justified.

Thank you for reading this post from JEARETTAS Day 30! If you have any episode suggestions for me to review then you are unfortunately too late. But don’t worry; you can search the JEARETTAS archive for something you might like anyway!
