Recently I got an award from WordPress saying congratulations, you’ve got 1337 likes! Why on earth would they give me this award for a number so arbitrary? What’s so special about 1337 likes?
Well I did a bit of digging and found a source which I use all the time for writing my posts, Urban Dictionary! Here’s what it said:
Hacker “Sp33k” for leet, or elite. Originating from 31337 “eleet”, the UDP port used by Dead Cow Cult, a hacker group, to access Windows 95 using Back Orifice, a notorious hacking program.
So yeah, pretty strange but ok!
Also I’ve got my twitter site set up for this blog, I’m still working on it so I’m not going to announce it in a big way yet, but if you want to be an early adopter here you go: https://twitter.com/MBICETA, once I’ve got it working better I’ll find all you guys on it but we’ll see how long it take. MCICETA stands for My Brain Is Completely Empty Twitter Account by the way.
As well as that I made a tumblr account for my blog even though I never plan on using it, only linking posts to it which can be found here: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/mbiceta The name is the same as above but just replace Twitter with Tumblr.
I don’t want my friends to find me online so I have to be careful, it’s going to take a long time before I feel like sharing to Facebook as well! Anyway theirs more to come when I actually announce the thing properly.
It does look pretty dead on tumblr though:

I had the same reaction when I received that award and I had to ask on Twitter why WordPress would have such an arbitrary achievement. To be honest, I still don’t really get it. Seems pretty random.

Yeah all I’ve got is that definition, I still wonder why it got popular enough for WP to have it though!

You may want to check out this Megatokyo strip, one that brought l337 speak to a larger nerd consciousness: https://megatokyo.com/strip/9

Thank you, I took one look and thought I needed to check it out!
I have it set so that comments with links need to be approved by me, it’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s that I don’t trust everyone to post decent and relevant links.

Haha no problem—I’m pretty sure I have the same setting. Even my co-bloggers are sometimes held up in the comments! 😆
