Individuals who can materialize weapons from their soul are called “Blazers,” and they attend Kouryou Academy High School in order to harness their abilities. Each student is required to partner with another, in the hopes that one day, the pair can attain the power of Absolute Duo.

Tooru Kokonoe hopes to attend this academy in order to gain power after his sister and friends were slain by a mysterious man. However, at the opening ceremony, he is forced to duel against the person sitting next to him, with the loser being expelled. As Tooru prepares to give the match his all, it is not a weapon that manifests from his soul, but a shield, an irregularity which catches the attention of a foreign student named Julie Sigtuna.

This anime is the exact same as other harem anime’s, which means that you either think that’s the best thing ever or a terrible show you should avoid. Not that it doesn’t have any positives at all; I remember enjoying its comedy (as I did for all harems) with the same usual cast of repeated trope characters but it’s fine if you like that sort of thing.

As for most harems the plot isn’t great and relies on that same save the girl trope at the end to create a nice ending, if you like harems I’m sure this will be the worst part of the show for you. I don’t remember thinking the magic system was great, but it’s a harem! If you like that sort of thing (and you shouldn’t) then it’s right up you’re ally!

Any Harem anime

Others from it’s genre: Action, harem, supernatural, romance, ecchi, school

Shows from the same studio: 8bit

  1. I’m glad that Absolute Duo was the first harem anime I ever saw, as it saved me from the phase of being into shitty harem comedies (because I thought it was so bad) which so many anime watchers go through.

I’m really enjoying this project so far, I’m excited to see where it goes from here.

    • Yeah I went through that phase! It’s a huge never-ending series of blog posts which I still intend to write about! I’m glad you had good taste, much respect.

The place where this project is going is just more things like this, I need to create links and an integrated recommendation system. What I can say is that the reviews do get longer and more thorough which is good!

  2. I remember trying the first episode of this one but I’d just finished a season of Asterisk War and that Failed Chivalry of a Knight thing, probably got that title wrong, and decided I didn’t need to watch the same story again with the same cast wearing slightly different outfits and names. I kind of hoped to give this show a go on its own merits at some point but I decided to give myself some distance from the other shows first.

    • Sorry this comment didn’t appear for you straight away, it went directly to spam for some reason!

Yeah I saw all of those ones too, except it’s only now that I realise how derivative they all were. I wouldn’t say it’s anything exceptional so you’re not missing out on much!

      • I’ve been having that comment issue all morning. I did post out on Twitter to let people know. It happens occasionally to some of us and our comments just suddenly start vanishing. Nothing we can do to fix it unfortunately other than let people know and hope they occasionally check spam.
