Synopsis

After the murder of her father, Ryuuko Matoi has been wandering the land in search of his killer. Following her only lead—the missing half of his invention, the Scissor Blade—she arrives at the prestigious Honnouji Academy, a high school unlike any other. The academy is ruled by the imposing and cold-hearted student council president Satsuki Kiryuuin alongside her powerful underlings, the Elite Four. In the school’s brutally competitive hierarchy, Satsuki bestows upon those at the top special clothes called “Goku Uniforms,” which grant the wearer unique superhuman abilities.

Thoroughly beaten in a fight against one of the students in uniform, Ryuuko retreats to her razed home where she stumbles across Senketsu, a rare and sentient “Kamui,” or God Clothes. After coming into contact with Ryuuko’s blood, Senketsu awakens, latching onto her and providing her with immense power. Now, armed with Senketsu and the Scissor Blade, Ryuuko makes a stand against the Elite Four, hoping to reach Satsuki and uncover the culprit behind her father’s murder once and for all.

Review

Some people love this show and are ecstatic about it. I can’t understand why. Sure it’s a great show with fun action and nice moments but that’s about it. It is only entertaining through interesting action and antagonists alone. I just can’t understand why people think this is excellent though. It’s great but no masterpiece in any way at all and I don’t think it comes across as deep in any of the ways that other people claim it does.

  1. I’m certainly one of those people who think it’s an absolute masterpiece. The directing is masterful, as are the amazing character designs. The characters are fantastically fun to watch, although that’s how I would describe the whole show. I understand why one wouldn’t get so much out of it though.

      • Yeah, I don’t know how notifications works with three people in a comment chain very well so I’ll copy and paste the response to Karandi in case.

I dropped it at three episodes at the start so I get it. I won’t say that it gets that much better, but you start to enjoy it more and get into the swing of it the more you watch so it’s more of it’s the same, you just like it more. I hate to say it gets better, but I just got more invested the more I watched which I think is a little bit different.

  2. I’m actually one of the people who sees it as a masterpiece 😆 but I do get that it’s not everyone’s thing and not everyone sees it the same! I think the reason I love it so much is
1.The art style as I remember when watching it I was really drawn to the characters designs and the whole style of it and
2.The whole concept is pretty ridiculous, I think the fact that everything is so over the top in KLK is fabulous. Everything is taken to the extreme in terms of fight scenes, fan service and characters and it just hooked me in! I’m always so intrigued to see how others react to it though! Great post! 😄

    • Thank you! Yeah those are both things that I like about the show. It was a fun watch and I would definitely recommend it to others, just not as strongly as other things I like more.

The fight scenes were good and my main complaints are the three cities fight that wasn’t that interesting to me as well as that battle with all of Satsuki’s underlings towards the start.

      • No problem and I think they are the best parts for me and I’m glad you enjoyed them too! I totally get that. I know it’s not a show that I could recommend everyone to watch because I don’t think some people would appreciate it but it’s such a fun show overall!

I do see where your coming from. I found the start with the underlings a little slow and I think at first I thought it might drag out a bit but it wasn’t too bad but I enjoyed the fights overall. 😊

        • Yeah I feel the same way, it’s not a show for everyone and there are mixed feelings. I think it’s funny though that half the commenters thought it was a masterpiece and the other half dropped it because they couldn’t get into it. It’s a surprisingly polarized topic! It now feels strange being the middle ground who thinks it’s good but not amazing!

          • Definitely! I can see why there would be mixed feelings with a show like KLK. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea so I do understand that people didn’t get into it as much as others. I didn’t realise till talking with you just how spilt it is with people and I know what you mean about being on middle ground with a show when everyone else is either one or the other! It’s an odd feeling!
