Drawing Your Manga As If It Was Terrible: Boku Girl, Black Paradox and Mystery Manga!

Hello. I can’t draw. But I tried anyway. I thought it would be fun to hand draw pictures that I found in manga using them as reference material. Since I can’t draw it’s a fun way to draw something that looks passable while not needing too much effort. The only rule is that if I draw it, I have to put it up here even if it looks terrible!

I was pleasantly surprised by how good my drawings were, I thought they would suck pretty badly but at least one is ok. This was the first time I’ve drawn  in years since my terrible web comic and if you’ve read that you will appreciate this improvement!

Drawing 1: Boku Girl

So this was the first one I tried to recreate. And it turned out like this…

Alright not the best of starts but let’s look at the positives. Um, it looks human. It resembles the original fairly well even though it’s got a lot of errors. The thumb also looks nice.

The negatives are that I drew this on a picture that I rubbed out of the future city Taltree coming up in my new book. I didn’t want to draw the city so I drew this instead.

That left eye really sucks, and the right could be much better. The hair is very blocky and just feels bad. I should have put the side things of the blazer on both sides of the image. I think I also didn’t use a solid enough line to separate the blazer from the shirt so it looks odd.

However I’m happy with this image given my track record so far, it’s a vast improvement over that comic.

Drawing Two: Black Paradox

Side shots are fairly difficult, but after that semi-success I was ready for anything! Here’s what I came up with!

A problem that I had here was that it looked like the hand just vanished into thin air so I had to make it clearer that he was putting his hand in his pocket. This didn’t work out too well though.

That eye was also pretty bad. I feel like if that was good then it might make up for the strange head. The chin and nose are too protruding and I think I made his neck stick out and down too much. The arm looks sort of awkward too and I had to improve for the legs because I didn’t have a reference.

Drawing 3: Mystery Manga

I don’t know what this manga is called except that it starts with “Watashitachi No Shiawase N” and then it cuts off. I can imagine accidentally downloading this while looking for Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan and clicking the manga above or bellow that as well. So if you know what this is from then please let me know!

So another profile shot of a high school student. I guess that’s what feels easiest to draw right now! Drawing at angles is difficult…

Here’s what I drew!

I think this is probably the best one yet. Which isn’t saying much! I feel like it’s less obviously bad though.

The neck is way too small especially compared to the size of the shoulders, the smile could be more engaged and the image lacks a lot of the emotion and happiness in the original. My guy looks like he’s forcing a fake expression while the other one is the real thing.
