Synopsis

When Subaru Natsuki leaves the convenience store, the last thing he expects is to be wrenched from his everyday life and dropped into a fantasy world. Things aren’t looking good for the bewildered teenager; however, not long after his arrival, he is attacked by some thugs. Armed with only a bag of groceries and a now useless cell phone, he is quickly beaten to a pulp. Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, in hot pursuit after the one who stole her insignia, happens upon Subaru and saves him. In order to thank the honest and kindhearted girl, Subaru offers to help in her search, and later that night, he even finds the whereabouts of that which she seeks. But unbeknownst to them, a much darker force stalks the pair from the shadows, and just minutes after locating the insignia, Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered.

However, Subaru immediately reawakens to a familiar scene—confronted by the same group of thugs, meeting Satella all over again—the enigma deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.

Review

Re:Zero is not good, that’s pretty controversial to say but it’s a seriously boring action show that I only finished because it was popular.

I don’t care if you have something interesting to say about Subaru’s character arc because he is the most annoying person in anime ever, is terribly stupid and horrible to watch. His transformation from normal dude to psycho isn’t done well and feels so sudden that you cannot care for him. They also pay too much attention to him and the way characters interact with him is also terrible.

The finale just demonstrates everything bad in the show. We get a lot of episodes in the finale, then he dies and we do the exact same thing again. It really sucks. The whole thing with the whale is boring and a lot of the things in between are really painful to watch since the characters aren’t anyone you would want to care about.

I don’t get how anyone likes Rem so much or any character really. They feel boring to watch and don’t interest me in any way. This is no longer my kind of show, I would say if you like seasonal anime you will definitely like this/ have seen it already you will like it though, since I hate basically all seasonal anime.

  1. I thought there were some redeeming qualities to the show, enough that I gave it a positive rating overall, but that said, I agree that the show has many problems. There is a lot of not good in this show that makes it hard to enjoy.

While I would recommend it to some people, it wouldn’t be among my first options for recommending something. It’s got a different enough take on Isekai but suffers dramatically from pacing and writing. The lack of an ending is the biggest killer for me though, things started progressing ok and then it just stopped.

    • Yeah definitely, I would recommend konosuba above anything else I’ve seen in Isekai. Maybe log horizon as well even though I never got around to finishing it!

I think it’s good that you enjoyed it enough to give it a positive rating. I would have done at first but the characters just became way too irritating for my liking and it really stopped me caring at all for the show, which is a huge killer for enjoyment.

  2. Subaru is really a truly annoying character. I tried more than once to watch the first two episodes and couldn’t because he just annoyed me endlessly. In the end I decided I didn’t care how many people told me this show was good, I wasn’t going to waste any more time trying to get into something that was just irritating me.

    • That’s a long way to get into the series before dropping it! I didn’t like it either and regret watching it. I got to the end to complete it. The ending was crazy where they repeated the exact same thing for two episodes because the main character died.
